Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that a new meeting between President Vladimir Putin and U S President Donald Trump remains possible as diplomatic contacts continue between the two countries. He said nothing should be ruled out and that the search for a way forward is ongoing. Ryabkov confirmed that channels of dialogue have not been suspended and that multiple communication mechanisms are functioning even if not all are visible to the public. Their last meeting in Alaska did not produce any agreements on Ukraine, and a planned follow up in Budapest has been postponed indefinitely.
Ryabkov added that the formats of ongoing dialogue are well established and functioning properly. He described progress in maintaining communication with the U S as impressive and noted that not all channels need to be publicly discussed. He emphasised that operational mechanisms remain in place and that diplomacy is continuing steadily, despite tensions and differing positions on global security issues including the Ukraine conflict and international sanctions.

On the topic of a possible trilateral meeting including China, Ryabkov clarified that Moscow does not intend to pressure Beijing regarding arms control and strategic stability. He said Russia has not received any formal proposals from the U S on such a meeting. Trump has expressed interest in including China in nuclear reduction efforts, and Ryabkov confirmed that Putin had discussed the prospect of bilateral nuclear de-escalation, which could eventually expand to include China in future dialogues.
