Qatar Pushes Momentum for Gaza Peace

[post-views]

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has urged all sides to seize the “momentum” to end Israel’s war on Gaza, stressing that “the main focus is how to protect the people in Gaza.” Speaking to Al Jazeera, he said Donald Trump’s ceasefire framework, already backed by Israel and several Arab and Muslim states, addresses key priorities: halting killings, preventing displacement, and ensuring Israeli withdrawal.

The plan, now under review by Hamas, proposes an immediate end to attacks, full aid access, and the release of Israeli captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. It also outlines Hamas stepping down, demilitarisation with amnesty, and an interim Palestinian technocratic administration supported by an international force.

Sheikh Mohammed acknowledged “challenges” remain, especially over Israel’s withdrawal process and future governance. He stressed these must be settled under a legal framework at the UN Security Council. While Hamas deliberates, Trump has given “three to four days” for a decision, calling it an ultimatum rather than an offer.

Despite its momentum, critics warn the plan gives Israel too many guarantees while offering Palestinians little security or autonomy. For Gaza’s civilians, the stakes remain life and death.
