Richard Madden, known for his role in Game of Thrones, recently reflected on the infamous Red Wedding episode which aired almost a decade ago. The episode, which took place in season 3, episode 9, The Rains of Castamere, saw the brutal murder of Madden’s character, Robb Stark, along with his mother, wife, and other members of House Stark, orchestrated by Walder Frey as an act of revenge.
During an appearance on Entertainment Tonight to promote his new Amazon Prime series, Citadel, alongside co-star Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Madden was asked about his time on Game of Thrones and the Red Wedding scene.
Madden expressed fond memories of the overall experience of working on the show, despite the gruesome scene in question. He explained, “It’s nice to be back into recurring series drama where you get so much time to tell a story, and then you get these huge payoffs like [the Red Wedding]. Three seasons deep, we got to have this horrible death with characters that you’re invested in.”
He also shared that the goal of his new show, Citadel, is to create a vast world and develop well-rounded characters, similar to that of Game of Thrones.
