Fatal Plane Crash Strikes Russia’s Far East: All 49 Feared Dead

[post-views]

Dozens, including children, are feared dead after an Angara Airlines passenger plane vanished over Russia’s remote Amur region, according to Russian state media. The Soviet-designed Antonov An-24, flying from Khabarovsk to Blagoveshchensk and Tynda, lost radar contact just miles from Tynda airport, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on Telegram.

A rescue helicopter later found the burning wreckage in a hard-to-reach, swampy forest. Officials say the crash site’s location made access challenging, with no roads nearby. On board were 43 passengers—including five children—and six crew members, said Amur region governor Vasiliy Orlov.

Preliminary information from emergency responders indicates that none of the 49 people on the flight survived. The cause of the sudden loss of contact is under investigation. The doomed regional flight was operated by Irkutsk-based Angara Airlines.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing, involving all available resources, authorities confirmed.
