Pakistan’s security forces killed eight terrorists during an operation along the Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation took place on Wednesday after security personnel detected the movement of a group identified as “khwarij.” The ISPR said that the engagement was precise, resulting in the elimination of eight terrorists affiliated with the Indian-backed Fitna al Khwarij, and that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site.
Fitna al Khwarij is the term used by the state for members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The military said sanitization operations are ongoing to remove any remaining threats in the area.
The ISPR also criticized the Afghan Taliban for failing to secure their side of the border, urging them to prevent the use of Afghan territory by terrorists targeting Pakistan.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for their swift action, highlighting the army’s professionalism and dedication in defending Pakistan’s frontiers.
The operation forms part of Pakistan’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign, Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, which targets terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan. A temporary five-day pause was observed during Eidul Fitr, but the operation continues until its objectives are fully achieved.
