Senator Ishaq Dar, the Leader of the House in the Senate, emphasized the necessity of addressing the distribution of resources among provinces under the National Finance Commission (NFC) during his address in the upper house on Tuesday.

Dar underscored that, in accordance with the Constitution, the NFC should undergo revision every five years. As a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former finance minister, he addressed reports circulating about his party’s intentions regarding the 18th amendment.

Clarifying the situation, Senator Dar stated, “In the story, it was said that the PML-N manifesto committee was told to look at the 18th Amendment again. The manifesto committee has not been given any such mandate. There is no problem related to the 18th Amendment.” He further mentioned that the party’s manifesto committee chairman affirmed that the manifesto had not been finalized.

Highlighting the gravity of constitutional amendments, Dar asserted, “Amending the Constitution is not an ordinary matter. There is nothing related to the 18th Amendment in the manifesto committee,” emphasizing that the PML-N played a role in the formulation of the 18th Amendment.
