PM Shehbaz Announces Waiver of Electricity Bills in Flood-Hit Areas

[post-views]

Federal Minister for Power, Awais Ahmad Leghari, on Saturday extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for what he described as a timely and people-friendly initiative to waive electricity bills for citizens in flood-affected regions.

In his official statement, Leghari confirmed that electricity bills for the month of August have been completely waived for consumers in areas devastated by floods. He further clarified that any amounts already collected under these bills would be refunded to the people without delay.

“The Power Division will ensure immediate enforcement of the prime minister’s directive,” the minister assured, underscoring the government’s commitment to deliver relief and ease the financial burden of citizens grappling with the aftermath of floods.

This development follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s earlier announcement of a significant relief package for flood-hit households. Chairing a high-level meeting, the premier instructed electricity distribution companies to immediately halt the collection of August 2025 bills in the affected regions.

The prime minister also indicated that a broader and more comprehensive relief package would be formulated after consultations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), ensuring that long-term solutions accompany immediate relief efforts.
