ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) unanimously granted its approval on Friday for the elevation of Irfan Saadat Khan, the acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC), to the Supreme Court (SC).
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, as per an official statement from the top court, recommended Khan’s nomination. The JCP convened a meeting to address the current vacancies in the Supreme Court, and this approval fills one of the two vacant seats.
During the meeting, CJP Isa commented, “Justice Irfan Saadat Khan fulfills the required qualifications, possesses extensive knowledge, diverse experience, impeccable character, and is the most senior Judge among all Chief Justices and Judges of high courts.”
The statement further indicated that all members present at the meeting unanimously endorsed the nominations, which also received written endorsement from the absent Law Minister, Ahmed Irfan Aslam.
Justice Khan’s nomination as a Supreme Court judge by the commission will now proceed to the parliamentary committee for formal approval.
