South Africa Rebukes US Refugee Bias

[post-views]

The South African government has strongly criticised the United States for prioritising refugee applications from white Afrikaners, calling the move “discriminatory” and rooted in misinformation. Officials said allegations of a so-called “white genocide” have been repeatedly debunked, citing official crime data that shows no racial group is disproportionately targeted.

Pretoria also pointed to an open letter signed by prominent Afrikaner leaders rejecting the persecution narrative and condemning the relocation plan as racially divisive. “The limited number of white South Africans seeking resettlement in the US itself disproves the genocide myth,” a government statement noted.

The controversy follows President Donald Trump’s earlier offer of refugee status to Afrikaners after South Africa’s land reform law allowed limited state expropriation. The Trump administration recently set the US refugee cap at just 7,500, its lowest on record.

South Africa’s ambassador to Washington previously accused Trump of exploiting racial fear for political gain, saying the White House “weaponised white victimhood” using false imagery and misidentified photos from foreign conflicts.
