Novak Djokovic’s parents are urging their son to bid farewell to his sports career and officially announce retirement after his recent loss in the Wimbledon final earlier this month.
In the intense Wimbledon final, Novak faced a defeat against Carlos Alcaraz, marking the end of his impressive 14-match winning streak at the prestigious venue.
At 36 years old, Novak is transitioning into the role of a seasoned veteran following the retirements of Federer and injury concerns surrounding Rafael Nadal. While he enjoys taking on the younger generation, competing at the highest level demands tremendous effort.
Nonetheless, Novak’s parents firmly believe that their son has already achieved everything and that now might be an opportune moment to bid adieu to tennis.
In a new documentary titled “Novak Djokovic – Untold Stories,” Novak’s father, Srdjan Djokovic, expressed his perspective, saying, “It’s all up to him. As far as I’m concerned, he can retire right now – he has won everything.”
Srdjan further added, “As far as my wishes for him go, he has already fulfilled them all seven/eight years ago. The rest is this amazing bonus. Tennis is only one segment of his life, not his whole life.”
“I expect him to be recognized for the things he will do after his career ends as well, after he leaves the tennis world, which I hope will happen next year. And for Novak to slowly but surely… it’s not the end, but in a year-and-a-half, let’s say.”
Srdjan voiced his concern about the demanding nature of tennis, both physically and mentally, and how it leaves little time for other aspects of life. He mentioned, “I think for some time that he should have stopped working this extremely difficult job.”
