ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi from contesting elections for five years following his conviction in the cipher case.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a notification in this regard, in which it is said that the former foreign minister has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on being found guilty in this case.

The notification states that Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been disqualified under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan read with Section 232 of the Election Act, 2017.
On January 30, PTI founder and close associate Shah Mehmood Qureshi was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor in the cipher case.
