The apex court has been moved through a petition contending that President Dr Arif Alvi has failed to fulfil his constitutional duties and is, therefore, liable to be removed from his office.

The petition, filed by Ghulam Murtaza Khan under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, names the president, his secretary, and the Ministry of Law and Justice respondents.

Referring to two Supreme Court verdicts, the petition stated that the president failed to fulfil his constitutional responsibilities.

It alleged that Dr Alvi misused his powers and undermined the president’s office.

It stated that the president represented the entire nation, not just a political party. Still, Alvi, who had been a close confidant of PTI Chairman, had diverted his presidential office to the political activities of the PTI.

It claimed that Alvi had also committed unconstitutional actions by improperly using the authority of his presidency.
The president failed in his constitutional obligations, as he was supposed to announce the date for the upcoming general elections but still needs to do so.

It added that he failed to ensure implementation of Article 5 of the Constitution.
