The United States again declared Yemen’s Houthis a “terrorist” organization

[post-views]

Washington: The United States has again put Yemen’s Houthis on the list of “terrorist” organizations.

The Houthis have already faced several airstrikes in response to targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea. However, the Yemeni Houthis have announced that they will continue attacks in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.

The State Department is announcing today the designation of Ansarullah, commonly known as the Houthis, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Group, Secretary of State Anthony Blanken said in a statement. It will be effective for 30 days from today.

He said the Houthis should be held accountable for their actions, but not at the cost of Yemeni citizens.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan said the ban is an important tool to prevent the Houthis from funding terrorism, further restricting their access to financial markets and holding them accountable for their actions.

If the Houthis stop their attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, the U.S. will immediately reevaluate the sanctions, Sullivan said in a statement.

However, the Houthis said that they will not stop their attacks.
