Torrential Rain and Thunderstorms: Tragic Toll of 11 Lives in Pakistan

In a relentless onslaught of nature’s fury, violent storms accompanied by heavy rain and thunderstorms wreaked havoc in the northern regions of Pakistan, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives from lightning strikes.

Reports of fatalities due to lightning strikes poured in from various areas of Punjab, including Narowal, Pasrur, Shakargarh, and Sheikhupura.

The pre-monsoon rainfall unleashed its fury upon Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Pothohar region, northern and upper Punjab, and north-eastern Balochistan, commencing late Sunday night and persisting throughout Monday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier predicted the onset of pre-monsoon rains in the country from June 25th, anticipating this spell to extend till June 30th.

In the city of Lahore, the latest downpour commenced at 4:40 am, subsiding at 9 am after a fierce storm had ravaged the area on Sunday evening. The rainfall statistics for Monday are as follows: Paniwala Talab recorded 165mm, Laxmi Chowk 161mm, Qartaba Chowk 154mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 153mm, Jauhar Town 132mm, Jail Road 118.5mm, Gulberg 103mm, Tajpura 102mm, Samanabad 91mm, Nishtar Town 149mm, Mughalpura 72mm, and Airport 52mm.
