President-elect Donald Trump has selected former Georgia Senator David Perdue as his nominee for Ambassador to China, a key role amid growing tensions between the U.S. and China. Trump praised Perdue’s extensive experience, noting his 40-year career as a Fortune 500 CEO and his time in the U.S. Senate. Perdue also has significant international experience, having lived in Asia, including Hong Kong and Singapore.

In his announcement, Trump emphasized that Perdue’s expertise would be vital in strengthening U.S.-China relations and ensuring peace in the region. Perdue, known for his tough stance on China during his Senate tenure, has previously called for a long-term strategy to address China’s growing economic and geopolitical influence.

Perdue’s nomination requires Senate approval, which is expected to proceed smoothly with Republicans holding a majority. As Ambassador, Perdue will face significant challenges, especially with Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Chinese goods in response to issues like the fentanyl trade.

In other appointments, Trump named tech investor David Sacks as his “crypto czar,” tasked with overseeing policies on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.
