US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed that he played a pivotal role in preventing a war between Pakistan and India in May 2025. Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump praised Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, describing him as a “highly respected general.”
Trump asserted that his intervention helped avert a potential nuclear conflict, stating, “We stopped a potential nuclear war between Pakistan and India.” He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had credited him with saving millions of lives, noting that “eight planes were shot down” and that the escalation could have been catastrophic.
During the same event, Trump unveiled plans for a new class of US Navy warships named the Trump-class, as part of a broader modernisation initiative called the “Golden Fleet.” The first two vessels will be constructed with plans for expansion, featuring advanced weaponry, including missiles, guns, lasers, and hypersonic systems, designed to surpass existing destroyers in size and capability.
Trump also highlighted the sophistication of US submarines, declaring them the most advanced globally and asserting that the United States maintains a technological lead of at least 15 years over other nations. He confirmed that 15 state-of-the-art submarines are currently under production, reinforcing the Navy’s strategic dominance.
The former president’s statements reflect a dual focus on his claimed diplomatic influence in South Asia and ongoing efforts to emphasise US military superiority through technological innovation and naval modernisation.
