Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary for further discussions on ending the war in Ukraine. The decision follows what Trump described as a “very productive” phone conversation between the two leaders, initiated at Moscow’s request.
According to Trump, the next round of negotiations will be led by high-level advisers, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio representing Washington. A Kremlin aide confirmed that the talks were “substantive,” though no major breakthroughs were reported.

The announcement comes a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington, where he is expected to press the U.S. administration for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles. Trump has previously stated that he is “considering” the request, but no decision has been made yet.
While diplomatic activity appears to be intensifying, analysts note that both Moscow and Kyiv have yet to show tangible progress toward a ceasefire, leaving the prospects of a negotiated peace uncertain.
