Trump Secures Netanyahu’s Backing for Gaza Peace Plan

[post-views]

WASHINGTON/CAIRO/JERUSALEM – U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday secured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s support for a U.S.-sponsored peace proposal aimed at ending nearly two years of war in Gaza. The plan, however, still hinges on whether Hamas will agree to its terms.

Speaking alongside Netanyahu at the White House, Trump declared they were “beyond very close” to an elusive peace deal. He warned Hamas that Israel would have Washington’s full backing to act if the group rejects the plan. The 20-point framework calls for an immediate ceasefire, hostage-prisoner swaps, Hamas disarmament, a phased Israeli withdrawal, and a transitional governance system led by an international board chaired by Trump.

Netanyahu endorsed the proposal, saying it achieves Israel’s war aims by ensuring the return of hostages, dismantling Hamas’s military structure, and preventing future threats. Yet disputes remain over Palestinian statehood and the Palestinian Authority’s role in Gaza. Hamas, still holding dozens of hostages, has not officially responded, though Qatar and Egypt confirmed the group is reviewing the document.

The plan comes amid mounting humanitarian devastation in Gaza, where more than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed according to local health authorities. Analysts caution that despite Trump’s breakthrough with Netanyahu, progress depends on Hamas’s decision and the ability of mediators to bridge remaining gaps.
