At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, US President Donald Trump delivered a fiery speech attacking migration, climate policies, and even the UN itself. Declaring open borders a “failed experiment,” he accused the organisation of “funding an assault on Western countries” by supporting asylum seekers, and singled out Europe as being in “serious trouble.”
Trump dismissed climate change as the “greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world,” provoking visible discomfort among delegates. He rejected renewable energy, claiming globalist agendas were forcing industrial nations to “inflict harm on themselves.” His comments drew sharp contrast with scientific consensus that climate change is both real and human-driven.
The US president also reignited controversy by targeting London Mayor Sadiq Khan with false claims about Sharia law. Khan’s spokesperson dismissed the remarks as “appalling and bigoted.” Trump further accused Europe of hypocrisy, buying Russian oil while opposing Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, which he said was “making Russia look bad.”
On Gaza, Trump repeated calls for a ceasefire but condemned countries recognising Palestine, labelling it a “reward” for Hamas. His speech, nearly an hour long, drew muted but uneasy reactions, with delegates squirming at his rhetoric. Still, Trump insisted it was “very well received,” later meeting UN chief Antonio Guterres, who urged cooperation for peace.
