UK Allows US to Use Its Bases for Strikes on Iranian Sites

[post-views]

The United Kingdom has given the United States permission to use its military bases to target Iranian missile sites threatening ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This approval is framed as part of the collective defense of the region, limited to defensive operations only.

Downing Street clarified that the UK will not be directly involved in any strikes, and its overall approach to the conflict remains unchanged. Previously, the UK had allowed US forces to use its bases to prevent threats that could endanger British interests or lives.

A Downing Street spokesperson said that ministers agreed on Friday that the bases could now be used for US defensive operations aimed at Iranian capabilities targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation and a swift resolution to the conflict. They noted that Iran’s reckless attacks, including those on Red Ensign-flagged ships and vessels of close allies and Gulf partners, risk pushing the region deeper into crisis while worsening economic impacts in the UK and globally.
