The military administration of the Ukrainian capital reported that Kyiv was targeted by a ballistic missile strike for the third time in August. The head of the Kyiv military administration, Serhiy Popko, stated that the attacks occurred with precise intervals of six days between each strike. According to preliminary information, the military administration believes that North Korean ballistic missiles were likely used in the recent attack. Furthermore, Ukraine’s air defence units successfully neutralized several drones launched by Russia.
The extent of the damage caused by the attack is not immediately clear, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The type of missiles launched could not be independently verified by Reuters.
Residents in the region heard blasts resembling air defence systems early on Sunday. Additionally, about two hours after the initial attack, Kyiv, its surroundings, and a large part of central and northeastern Ukraine were put under fresh raid alerts, signalling the possibility of additional missile threats.
