The Russian-installed administration at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under Moscow’s control, reported on Monday that Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack on a training facility within the plant complex on Sunday evening.
According to the statement released via the Telegram messaging app, three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were used in the strike. The administration claimed that while the attack did occur, it caused “no critical damage” to the facility or the plant’s operations.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant — Europe’s largest — has been a focal point of concern since Russian forces seized it in the early months of the full-scale invasion. Both Ukraine and Russia have repeatedly accused each other of endangering the site, raising fears of a nuclear incident.
Sunday’s drone strike comes amid a broader escalation in hostilities. In a separate development, Russian forces carried out a series of drone and missile attacks across western regions of Ukraine, reportedly killing at least two civilians and damaging infrastructure.
The renewed exchange of strikes underscores the growing volatility surrounding the nuclear plant and the ongoing risks faced by civilians far from the front lines.
