Nighat Dad, the leader of the Digital Rights Foundation (DRF), assumed a significant role as a member of the high-level advisory board on Artificial Intelligence (AI) appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, on Friday.

This 39-member advisory board consists of eminent and accomplished individuals hailing from various parts of the world. Its primary focus is to tackle the global governance of AI, with an expectation to provide initial recommendations by the end of the year. These recommendations will center on three key areas: international AI governance, generative AI, and establishing a common understanding of the risks and challenges associated with the implementation of AI technologies.

Furthermore, the advisory board is tasked with exploring avenues and mechanisms for harnessing AI to expedite the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The announcement of Nighat Dad’s inclusion in the advisory board was made by the UN’s Pakistan chapter via their official channel.

“Congratulations to @NighatDad, Executive Director of @DigitalRightsPK, who is now a member of the High-level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Launched by UNSG @AntonioGuterres, it will support the international community’s efforts to govern artificial intelligence.”
