Are Hamas and Hezbollah the Same? Not at all. In Lebanon, Hezbollah is part of a broader political and military landscape. While influential, it does not control the presidency or parliament. Unlike Gaza, Lebanon is integrated into international governance and financial systems. Gaza and Hamas primarily interact with the international community through aid from organizations like the UN.
Hamas, which also has a strong military wing like Hezbollah, governs Gaza entirely and must maintain societal and governmental functions.
Are They Both ‘Iranian Proxies’? They are allies. Israel portrays them as extensions of Iran, which it considers its ultimate adversary. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the U.S. Congress that Iran backs Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen, posing a unified threat to Israel and the West. Both groups have strong ties with Iran but operate independently.
