US intelligence assessments suggest that China may soon supply Iran with new air defense systems, according to a report by CNN citing sources familiar with the matter. The deliveries could take place within weeks, raising concerns as tensions remain high in the region.
According to the report, Beijing is believed to be planning the transfer through third countries in an apparent effort to conceal the origin of the weapons. The systems in question are said to include shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, commonly known as MANPADS, which can target low-flying aircraft and significantly strengthen Iran’s defensive capabilities.
There has been no immediate response from the US State Department, the White House, or the Chinese embassy in Washington regarding these claims.
