Elon Musk, the owner of SpaceX, has reacted to a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) accusing the company of discriminatory hiring practices against refugees and asylum seekers. In a tweet on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk commented that the “DOJ needs to sue themselves.”
The DOJ is suing @elonmusk and @SpaceX for focusing their hiring on US citizens and permanent residents.

Do you know who else advertises that only US citizens can apply for a job? The DOJ. https://t.co/EiGn95QYbY pic.twitter.com/Zo2KoocMSF
The lawsuit alleges that SpaceX, from September 2018 to May 2022, actively discouraged refugees and asylum seekers from applying for job positions and subsequently rejected their applications. This alleged practice suggests discrimination based on their citizenship status, which would be in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
The lawsuit further claims that SpaceX advertised its policy of exclusively hiring US citizens and lawful permanent residents, but the Justice Department contends that this information was both incorrect and discriminatory.
