Ukrainian officials are pushing for the United States Congress to persuade President Joe Biden to send F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv, claiming that these planes will enhance Ukraine’s capacity to target Russian missile units with American-made missiles, according to lawmakers.

At the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian officials including Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, held discussions with Democrats and Republicans from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, requesting their support to urge President Biden’s administration to send the F-16 jets.

According to Senator Mark Kelly, a former astronaut who flew in the U.S. Navy, the officials stated that they require the F-16s to suppress enemy air defenses, allowing their drones to go beyond the Russian front lines. Last month, President Biden rejected Ukraine’s request for Lockheed-Martin-manufactured F-16s.

During the conference, four delegations from the Senate and House attended, with lawmakers describing it as the most significant number of U.S. officials to attend Europe’s primary security meeting since its inception in 1963, demonstrating their support for Ukraine with bipartisan enthusiasm.
