US Secretary of State Calls for Transparent Probe into Sikh Separatist’s Murder

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has publicly urged India to collaborate with Canada in the probe into the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist.

Nijjar was fatally shot near Vancouver in June, and Canada has accused the Indian government and its agents of involvement in the killing.

During a press briefing at the UN General Assembly, Blinken stressed the significance of accountability and called on India to endorse a comprehensive investigation.

“We are seeking accountability. It is imperative that the inquiry proceeds to its culmination and attains the desired results,” Blinken emphasized, underlining the gravity of the broader problem of “cross-border repression.”
