The US Department of State reaffirmed on Wednesday that claims of American participation in the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan are untrue. During a daily briefing, spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized, “As we’ve stated numerous times, the legal issues surrounding the former prime minister are for Pakistani courts to handle. The allegations about the US influencing his dismissal are simply false.”
Miller noted that he has addressed this topic repeatedly and stressed that the future of Pakistani politics is for the citizens of Pakistan to determine, in line with their laws and constitution.
When asked about the reaction of some members of Congress who wrote to President Biden advocating for Khan’s release and were subsequently criticized on social media, Miller remarked, “We don’t know who is responsible for spreading that information. However, if individuals wish to discuss concerns about US officials, they should focus on the substance of those concerns rather than resorting to personal attacks based on someone’s religion or sexual orientation.”
