[post-views]

Washington: US State Department spokesperson Miller on Tuesday refrained from commenting on the jail sentence of the PTI founder, saying that he does not want to comment on the sentence of the former prime minister.

In his media briefing in Washington, Miller said that prosecuting the former prime minister is a legal matter and Pakistan’s courts have to decide it.

Miller said that the United States has consistently said that we demand respect for democratic principles, human rights and the rule of law in Pakistan, as in the rest of the world.

In response to a question, he said that we want to see a free, fair and open democratic process and when it comes to legal matters, they should be decided by Pakistani courts.
