Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Skywatchers in Pakistan can witness a supermoon today (Thursday), as announced by Dr. Jawed Iqbal, Director of the Institute of Space Science and Technology. The supermoon will appear 14% brighter and 7% larger than usual.

The moon will be visible after sunset, marking the third full moon of the year. The distance between the moon and the earth will be about 226,000 miles, compared to the average distance of 238,855 miles.

A supermoon occurs when the moon’s orbit brings it closest to earth (perigee) while it is also a full moon, making it appear significantly larger and brighter than normal. The supermoon’s larger size will also be visible in the following days.
