Why are only the constituency-based surveys relevant in Pakistan?

[post-views]

A survey is collection of informative data compiled to take informed decisions. The primary purpose of political survey is to allow political parties to take electoral decisions & improve electioneering performance accordingly.

There are several types of surveys often conducted depending upon the structure of electioneering. There is a parliamentary form of electioneering in Pakistan. Accordingly, what’s the best political survey in Pakistan? The constituency-based surveys are only the relevant political surveys in Pakistan.
It’s a constituency politics in Pakistan due to parliamentary form of governance. There are 266 National Assembly constituencies. Therefore, the primary survey should collect data from each constituency & then compile measurements of different political trends. The survey must determine, what’s the position of each political party in the constituency coupled with candidature. It should show the party position in a constituency. Then, party position of all constituencies be accumulated to show the collective political trend. Parliamentary survey must contain sample from each constituency.

Therefore, a survey that is not based on constituencies & not trending which political party will win how many seats is not a primary or relevant survey. For example, republic policy conducted the constituency based survey of Punjab in March, 2023. It took a month to do the survey. After collecting the total constituency results of all constituencies, the other political trends such as popular leader, party & others were assessed. However the primary focus was always to show the trend of each constituency & then compiling the results of all constituencies. Measuring the popularity of leaders & political parties without showing the trends of constituencies is misplaced. For example, a leader can be popular but it doesn’t mean that his party will win accordingly. Each constituency is different in Pakistan & the popularity of leader or party doesn’t mean that the constituency will be won. The constituency will only be won if a party or candidate fulfills the criteria measured to win a constituency.

Hence, the presidential forms of surveys in Parliamentary form of governance may mislead political parties. Therefore, political parties should only rely on constituency-based surveys. After all, it’s constituency politics in Pakistan. There is no trend of constituency-based surveys in Pakistan. Therefore, people & political parties may propel the surveying firms to conduct constituency based surveys & then measure different political derivatives such as popularity of leaders & parties.
