Pakistan and China to Boost Maritime Cooperation and Joint Policy Coordination

Pakistan and China have agreed to strengthen coordination on maritime policy and expand cooperation in the maritime sector at both bilateral and multilateral levels. The agreement came during the Fifth Round of the Pakistan-China Maritime Cooperation Dialogue held in Beijing on Tuesday.

The high-level talks were co-chaired by Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Additional Secretary (Asia-Pacific) from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Hong Liang, Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, both sides reviewed the progress made in previous rounds and held detailed discussions on a wide range of maritime-related topics, including maritime security, the blue economy, marine science and technology, and environmental sustainability.

The two countries reaffirmed that strong maritime collaboration is an essential pillar of their longstanding “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.” They emphasized their shared goal of building a Pakistan-China maritime community with a common vision for the future.

The dialogue also highlighted the importance of maintaining regular communication on maritime affairs and enhancing strategic alignment on maritime policies. Both nations expressed their commitment to continuing this momentum by holding the sixth round of the Maritime Cooperation Dialogue in Pakistan next year.

The renewed maritime cooperation comes as the Pakistan Navy recently launched its second Hangor-class submarine in China — a development that underscores the growing defense and strategic ties between the two countries.
