JI Chief Condemns 27th Amendment as Assault on Constitution

[post-views]

Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has issued a strong condemnation of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, describing it as “horrific and disastrous” for Pakistan. He warned that the reported provisions granting lifelong immunity to the President and dismantling the accountability framework are deeply alarming and must be entirely rejected by the opposition.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman termed the amendment “religiously, constitutionally, democratically, socially, and politically wrong,” calling it a shameful act and a direct assault on the justice system.

He expressed astonishment at what he called the distorted form of democracy being practiced by the ruling coalition, particularly the PDM and PPP. According to him, political parties led by dynastic inheritance, personal wills, and feudal authority — which trade parliamentary loyalties for power — have no regard for public accountability or judicial oversight.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader stressed that both Islam and the Constitution demand that every citizen, including the President, remain subject to the law. He cited the Qur’an and Sunnah as clear directives for rulers to uphold and obey the rule of law themselves. Instead, he said, the country’s leadership seeks to place itself above the law, dragging Pakistan toward a state of lawlessness.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urged all opposition parties to stand united and block what he described as a dangerous conspiracy against the constitution, justice, and the rule of law.
