A powerful car explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort has left at least 12 people dead and over 30 injured, in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a “conspiracy” against India. The blast — the worst in the capital since 2011 — has triggered a sweeping anti-terror investigation led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Police have not yet disclosed the cause of the explosion, which shook the crowded Old Delhi area on Monday evening. The NIA is probing possible links to seven men arrested earlier in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where police recovered assault rifles and nearly three tonnes of bomb-making material.
Home Minister Amit Shah ordered a nationwide hunt for the culprits, while Modi vowed that “no conspirator will be spared.” The incident follows months of unrest and cross-border accusations after deadly violence in IIOJK. Hundreds have since been detained for questioning across the region as authorities tighten security in the capital.
