Pakistan Condemns UN Report on Kashmir Abuses

[post-views]

Pakistan on Wednesday voiced “grave concern” over a United Nations report detailing widespread human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Foreign Office said the findings confirmed Pakistan’s long-standing position that India’s illegal actions had led to the arbitrary arrest of nearly 2,800 people, including journalists, students, and human rights defenders. It noted that harsh laws such as the Public Safety Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act were enabling indefinite detentions without due process.

The FO described the documented cases of torture, custodial deaths, enforced disappearances, communication blackouts, punitive demolitions, and the blocking of thousands of social media accounts as deeply alarming. It added that the rise in hate speech, harassment, and violence targeting Kashmiris and other Muslim communities across India further highlighted the gravity of the situation. Pakistan said the UN observations reaffirmed concerns about state-sponsored persecution of Kashmiri Muslims and discrimination against minorities.

Islamabad urged India to end coercive measures, release all detainees, restore fundamental freedoms, and halt demographic and legal changes in the occupied region. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to a peaceful and just settlement of the Kashmir dispute under UN resolutions and vowed continued moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people.
