Pharmacy Student Injured in Suspected Suicide Attempt at University of Lahore

[post-views]

A first-semester pharmacy student was seriously injured on Monday after jumping from the second floor of the University of Lahore, police said. Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran told reporters that the student, originally from Narowal, sustained fractures to her legs and “profound chest injuries on the right side,” but had no major head trauma. She was hospitalized in serious condition at Lahore General Hospital.

According to DIG Kamran, preliminary information suggests the student was on a phone call about half an hour before the incident, and she jumped during the conversation. Authorities have seized her mobile phone for investigation. The reason behind the jump remains unclear, and police said a full inquiry will follow once her medical treatment is complete.

In response, the University of Lahore suspended all on-campus classes and shifted academic activities online from Tuesday, citing student safety concerns. Officials are also considering additional measures, including floor fences and staff deployment, to prevent similar incidents.

This event follows a similar tragedy in December, when a 22-year-old Pharm-D student died after jumping from the fourth floor, reportedly due to humiliation over low attendance and academic pressure. Authorities and the university continue to investigate the latest incident.
