On Friday, the social media platform X experienced a significant global outage, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access its services, according to outage monitoring website Downdetector.com.
By 10:35 a.m. ET in the United States, Downdetector had logged over 41,000 reports of issues, reflecting widespread disruption. Users in the United Kingdom reported around 8,000 incidents, while India saw more than 2,400 reports. The site tracks outages by compiling status updates from multiple sources, though the actual number of affected users may differ, as the figures are based on voluntary user submissions.
X did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment regarding the outage or its causes.
This incident follows a similar disruption earlier this week, which saw over 28,300 reports of problems in the United States and more than 8,000 in the UK, highlighting ongoing technical challenges for the platform. While such outages can temporarily prevent users from posting updates, messaging, or accessing feeds, the frequency and scale of these interruptions have raised concerns among users and industry observers about platform stability.
As users around the world experienced interruptions, many took to alternative channels to report issues and discuss the outage. The company has yet to provide an official explanation, leaving millions waiting for service to return to normal.
