[post-views]

Davos, Switzerland: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday briefed International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on Pakistan’s improving economic indicators, stabilisation measures, and ongoing structural reforms.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the premier highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to fiscal discipline, revenue mobilisation, and sustainable growth.

IMF Managing Director Georgieva acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s reform efforts, stressing the need to maintain momentum to ensure long-term economic resilience. Both leaders discussed the global economic outlook, challenges facing emerging economies, and the importance of multilateral support in safeguarding stability.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Attaullah Tarar.

The discussion came amid IMF’s downward revision of Pakistan’s GDP growth, from 3.6% to 3.2% for the current fiscal year, while the World Bank projects growth at 3% in 2025–26 and 3.4% in 2026–27. Pakistan’s economy is gradually stabilising, but continued reforms and international support remain crucial for sustainable progress.
