Pakistan will make a final call on whether it will take part in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by Friday or early next week, Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Monday.
In a post on X, Naqvi said he had briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the evolving situation during what he described as a productive meeting. According to Naqvi, the prime minister directed that the matter be resolved carefully, with all possible options kept open. Both agreed that a clear decision would be taken in the coming days.
The uncertainty follows a controversial move by the International Cricket Council to replace Bangladesh with Scotland after Bangladesh reportedly declined to travel to India due to security concerns. The decision has sparked criticism from the PCB.
Earlier, Naqvi said Bangladesh was being treated unfairly and argued that the ICC was applying double standards. He maintained that Bangladesh, as a full member and key stakeholder, should not be excluded from such a major tournament.
Naqvi said he raised these concerns directly at the ICC board meeting and made it clear that Pakistan’s position would align with the government’s policy. He stressed that fairness and consistency must guide ICC decisions, warning that selective treatment of member nations undermines the credibility of international cricket governance.
