The Power Division said Tuesday it has taken concrete steps to act on recent directives issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), instructing all power distribution companies and the Power Information Technology Company (PITC) to move immediately on resolving the backlog of pending net-metering applications.
The push follows NEPRA’s directive last week tasking PITC with reviewing and updating pending net-metering connections across DISCOs and K-Electric. According to the Power Division, the regulator’s directive specifically targets connections that remained stuck in the system even after consumers had already paid their demand notices, obtained net-metering licences, undergone physical meter replacement or reprogramming, and executed meter connection orders, all before February 9, 2026. “The legitimacy of such cases depend upon verifiable payment of demand notice by the consumers prior to the Regulator’s mentioned date of February 9,” the Division said.
To that end, the Power Division has directed distribution companies and PITC to conduct a thorough verification of all pending applications, focusing specifically on confirming that demand notice payments were made before the cutoff date. “Consumers who have fulfilled all prescribed requirements, including the timely payment of demand notices, are assured that they will not face any unnecessary obstacles or procedural delays,” it said, adding that PITC has been specifically tasked with reviewing its billing systems and software to ensure that all connections meeting the required conditions before February 9 are promptly updated and reflected in the system, a step officials described as essential to avoid leaving eligible consumers stranded in the process.
The Power Division stressed that the verification exercise is not intended to create additional hurdles, but rather to ensure NEPRA’s directives are implemented accurately and fairly. “The aim is to protect consumer rights while guaranteeing that only genuine pending cases are cleared expeditiously,” it said.
