A security official on Friday dismissed reports of a major military operation in the Tirah region as “propaganda,” clarifying that only intelligence-based operations (IBOs) were ongoing against militants. Briefing media in Karachi, the official rejected claims of a large-scale offensive, describing them as “false and baseless.”
“Over the past three years, operations have been strictly intelligence-driven against Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan,” the official said, emphasizing that IBOs remain the most effective counterterrorism method. They added that actions against terrorists are guided by intelligence and will continue until the last threat is neutralized.
The official denied any increase in troop deployments, establishment of new checkpoints, or restrictions on movement in Tirah, noting that weather conditions currently do not allow large-scale operations. They stressed coordination with local elders and communities, maintaining public trust and local traditions.
Meanwhile, thousands of families remain displaced amid ongoing relocations by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government. More than 10,000 people have been moved to safer areas, including Bara and Peshawar, since January 10, under the Provincial Disaster Management Authority’s supervision.
