Zardari Warns of Global Threats from Terrorism, Criticises Taliban Policies

[post-views]

ISLAMABAD — President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday warned that terrorist organisations operating from Afghanistan pose serious threats to global peace and criticised the Taliban regime for creating conditions “similar to or worse than pre-9/11.”

In a statement, Zardari thanked world leaders for expressing solidarity with Pakistan following Friday’s attack on an imambargah in Islamabad, which killed 36 people and injured over 160. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the assault.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism, Zardari said no single country can tackle extremist groups alone. “Whenever terrorist groups are allowed space or impunity across borders, innocent civilians bear the consequences worldwide,” he said, accusing some neighbouring countries of providing safe havens, financing, and technical support to militants targeting Pakistan.

He also criticised India for allegedly supporting the Taliban regime and threatening regional and global security. Zardari expressed gratitude to the international community for their messages of support, saying they brought comfort to grieving families and strength to the nation.

The president urged the Taliban to restrain terror groups operating from Afghanistan’s soil.
