UK exploring options to secure Strait of Hormuz amid tensions

[post-views]

The United Kingdom is considering all possible measures, including collaboration with the United States and other allies, to ensure the security of key oil shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has said.

His comments follow US President Donald Trump’s warning on Saturday that the channel would be opened “one way or another,” while urging countries such as the UK, China, and France to deploy warships to the strategic waterway.

Speaking to the BBC, Miliband stressed the importance of making the strait safe for shipping but did not provide specific details about the measures under consideration by the government.

Iran’s effective control over parts of the strait, one of the world’s most vital shipping lanes, has already caused significant disruption to global supply chains and contributed to rising energy prices, raising international concern over the stability of oil transport in the region.

The UK’s consideration of joint action with allies highlights the growing focus on protecting global energy routes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
