JD Vance Signals Cautious Optimism on Iran Talks, Warns Against “Playing Games”

[post-views]

LOS ANGELES: US Vice President JD Vance said on Friday that he is heading into upcoming negotiations with Iran in a positive and open frame of mind, while also warning Tehran against attempting to mislead or “play” the United States.

Speaking to reporters in Washington before departing for talks in Islamabad, Vance said he expects the discussions to be constructive if both sides engage sincerely.

“We’re looking forward to the negotiation. I think it’s going to be positive,” he said.

He added that the United States remains willing to pursue diplomacy if Iran shows seriousness at the table, but cautioned that trust must be earned through action.

“If the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand,” Vance said. “If they try to play us, they’re going to find the negotiating team is not that receptive.”

The remarks come ahead of high-level US–Iran talks hosted by Pakistan, aimed at sustaining a fragile diplomatic opening after recent tensions in the region.
