Azerbaijan Offers LNG Support to Pakistan Amid Energy Shortage

[post-views]

Azerbaijan’s state-owned energy company, SOCAR, has expressed readiness to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan whenever a formal request is made. The offer comes as Pakistan faces increasing pressure to secure energy supplies and manage a growing shortfall.

According to SOCAR, a framework agreement signed in 2025 between its trading arm and Pakistan LNG Limited allows Pakistan to quickly purchase LNG cargoes through a fast-track process. This arrangement is designed to help Islamabad respond more efficiently to urgent energy needs.

The company confirmed that it is prepared to deliver LNG as soon as Pakistan LNG Limited submits an official request. However, SOCAR did not clarify whether such a request has already been made, nor did it provide details about delivery timelines or the exact source of the LNG shipments.

Pakistan depends heavily on natural gas for power generation and industry, making it vulnerable to declining local production and fluctuating global prices. Ongoing regional instability, particularly linked to tensions involving Iran, has further disrupted supply chains, increasing the urgency for Pakistan to secure reliable LNG imports.
