Saudi Arabia Hosts Emergency GCC Summit Amid Iran Conflict Escalation

[post-views]

Saudi Arabia will host an extraordinary Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday, marking the first in-person gathering of Gulf leaders since the outbreak of the Iran conflict two months ago.

A Gulf official said the summit will focus on a joint response to Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting GCC states since the war began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. The conflict has damaged key energy infrastructure across all six member states, along with civilian and military sites.

Although a ceasefire between the US and Iran took effect on April 8, tensions remain high amid stalled efforts for a permanent agreement.

Leaders from Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE are attending, while Oman’s representation is unclear.

The meeting also follows criticism from UAE officials, who described the GCC’s political and military response to the crisis as unexpectedly weak despite logistical cooperation among members.
