PM Shehbaz Says Pakistan Played Key Role in US-Iran Peace Efforts

[post-views]

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan had emerged as an important force for peace in the Middle East, claiming that recent talks between the United States and Iran showed the growing trust of the international community in Islamabad’s diplomatic role.

Speaking at the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, the prime minister said Pakistan facilitated dialogue between Washington and Tehran for the first time since 1979. According to him, negotiations held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12 helped pave the way for a tentative ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

Sharif described the development as a major diplomatic achievement and said Pakistan had worked sincerely to promote peace and stability in the region. He added that the confidence shown by global powers placed a greater responsibility on Pakistan to continue acting with wisdom and balance.

The prime minister praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts in bringing both countries to the negotiating table.

He also thanked Mohammed bin Salman, China and Türkiye for supporting regional peace efforts.
