ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening peace in the region as hopes rise for a possible US-Iran understanding to end months of conflict affecting global trade and energy markets, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.
In a phone call, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi reviewed recent regional developments and ongoing efforts to promote stability, with both sides emphasizing continued engagement.
The FO said Araghchi briefed Dar on his China visit and consultations on regional and international issues ahead of a planned US-China summit.
Pakistan has played a facilitation role between Washington and Tehran, hosting earlier talks, extending ceasefire understandings, and conveying messages between the two sides.
The Foreign Office also said a US decision to transfer 22 Iranian crew members to Pakistan was a confidence-building step, and arrangements were underway for their return to Iran.
Spokesman Tahir Andrabi expressed optimism that a US-Iran agreement could be reached soon, urging peaceful regional stability resolution efforts.
