China has praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, welcoming the recent understanding reached between Washington and Tehran that is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday.

During a telephone conversation, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a significant step towards lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Wang Yi commended Pakistan’s active diplomatic engagement and mediation efforts, saying they helped create favourable conditions for continued negotiations between the two countries. Dar, in turn, appreciated China’s consistent support for dialogue and regional stability, highlighting President Xi Jinping’s Four-Point Proposal and the Pakistan-China Five-Point Initiative.

Both leaders stressed the importance of implementing the agreement and maintaining dialogue to resolve outstanding issues peacefully. They also underscored the significance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies and international trade.

The two foreign ministers also reviewed progress on bilateral cooperation following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China. Dar emphasised advancing CPEC 2.0 and expanding economic and investment ties between the two countries.

Meanwhile, senior US officials confirmed that Washington and Tehran have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending nearly four months of conflict, with a formal signing ceremony scheduled for Friday.
